After a two year hiatus, I’m back in the Extra-Life game! What is Extra-Life you ask? Let’s hear it from their own page:
Extra Life unites thousands of gamers around the world to play games in support of their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. Since its inception in 2008, Extra Life has raised more than $40 million for sick and injured kids.
I participated in Extra-Life 2014 and 2015 as both a player and a team captain. My teams have raised close to $2,000 for various Children’s Miracle Network hospitals across the country. Unfortunately, life got busy and I was unable to handle Extra-Life duties the past two years. Now, things have slowed down (a little!) to the point of me being able to play Captain again!
This year, I’ve decided to reach out to a broader player base by enlisting the Destiny 2 community. Sure, there’s GuardianCon, which is an amazing group of content creators aiming to raise money for St. Jude’s. They do a great job! For the “average” gamer though, I wanted to have something a little more accessible. So, I decided to create the Guardians for Good Extra-Life team.
Who are we?
Guardians for Good is an Extra-Life team that aims to bring the Destiny 2 player base together to raise money for an awesome cause! Guardians can be young or old. New or seasoned. Warlocks or Titans (Titan’s are the best class though). As long as you’re a Guardian, you’re welcome to join our fire team.
What is our goal?
Our goal is to raise $7,777 or more for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals across the country. Each team member gets to select a CMN hospital of their choice. Many choose ones local to them. The funds raised by the team member goes to their selected CMN hospital.
How do you sign up?
Head on over to Extra-Life and click the “Sign Up” button on the upper-right of your page. Fill out the requested information, pick a hospital, and select a goal. When it comes time to join a team, search for “Guardians for Good.” Once you complete your registration, you’ll be made a member. Then start fundraising!
What if I cannot participate but still want to help?
That’s ok, just spread the word! Help encourage other Guardians to join up. Spread the word on Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, etc. Send smoke signals. Ask around at your local Lost Sector. Anything you can do to help raise awareness and funds is greatly appreciated!
Depending on the amount of participation, I may end up doing some special gifts for team members or donors. Not sure just yet, so don’t hold me to it. As it gets closer to stream day, I’ll update the team on what we can do to drive donations and make stream day fun.
So what are you waiting for Guardian? Sign up today!
